Thailand: ISAAN!

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Another name for Thailand’s North-East biggest region is Isaan. People here are actually more relaxed and friendlier than in other areas. Not just great and kind people that make Isaan famous, so does the food.

Isaan food is famous for its variety of ingredients and spiciness. If you try the real Isaan food like the most popular Som Tam (a spicy papaya salad), you could sweat until the next day morning. And let me tell you Thai chilly is the king of the chilly. The hottest kind ever found on earth. Ok I might have exaggerated that a bit, but it is true that it is the spiciest. Oh talking about the food, I can’t forget mentioning Gai Yang (roasted spiced chicken). You have gotta try this one when you get a chance.

There is a district Laos and Khmer influence in the region which is reflected in the local dialect and culture such as architectures that look just like Angkor Wat.

There are archeological prove that shows the earliest settles of the region where here some 4000 years ago. The evident are such as prehistoric cave drawings and ancient ceramic and bronze sculptures.

What you can do there? There are lots of things you can do. If you want to try something new and learn what it’s like to live in rural Thailand, you can choose to stay with a home stay for a while. There you will learn and touch the real Thai Isaan people’s lives. You might get to go planting or harvesting and fishing. You will also learn the dialect and culinary secrets and everything. You might go back home and make your friends an Isaan dish.

Things to bring: just you and your heart and nerve to give your life an adventurous experience.

Why lots of people love Muay Thai?

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

What do you get from watching Muay Thai actually? Or do you watch it just for fun? Of course if you do study and learn all about Muay Tai, you would know that there are so much more you can get from watching or even better doing this type of sport.

Apart from that you can get healthier or control your weight and all, muay thai needs brain use. What I mean is, you can see that Muay Thai is so not alike Wrestling or anything like that that two people are jumping onto each other and try to knock the other down on the floor and crash him. But learning Muay Thai techniques require you to think how to move and hit properly to score more and to hurt your opponent as badly as you can without wasting too much of your energy. Or I call “wisely box”. I mean who has ever seen any Muay Thai fighter just randomly hit his opponent, hoping that he will finally knock someone out? Of course not!

Some people, like my grandpa for example, he’s like an expert of watching Thai Boxing. He’s been watching it for many decades. I asked him what he wants to see. Isn’t every fight are just the same? One wins, one loses. He said no. The reason he is still watching it even when he can hardly keep himself awake for more than 2 hours is, it helps him alert. He said he feels so much alive when he watches it. I think that whoever love something, should really feel about it like this.

Different people might have different opinion and reason. So, here’s the question…ask yourself why you are so into Muay Thai. How does it make you feel? And of course you can share that with us right here at your MuayThaiSport.com/blog. See you next time!

Thailand: Pattaya

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Who never heard of Pattaya before? I believe whoever have heard the name of Thailand and know where it is and don’t confuse it with Taiwan, will definitely know Pattaya. It’s one in the most famous beaches in Thailand. Well not only just the beach that make it famous, but also it is a great place for arranging any kind of events and festivals.

It’s also another home of Fairtex Muay Thai boxing club. And of course taking about Fairtex, I hope you still remember the former the Contender Asia winner, Yodsanklai. So instead of just talking about Pattaya, I also have a vdo clip of Yodsanklai’s first round KO in Pattaya. Take a look.

Ok…Back to what this article is about. Why lots of people love Pattaya so much? Well if you have been there you know that the beach there can’t even compare to Phuket’s or PP’s. What really makes Pattaya well known is the fun people can get once they visit this city.

Most of the people in Pattaya are tourists. You can hardly find any locals on the street, except in restaurants or bars or clubs and yeah at Fairtex. It can’t even compare with Bangkok. It’s just different.

Pattaya is a great choice for you if you’re looking for a city in nature. Because in one place you have both things; a somewhat “we got everything you need” beach.

So…I’ve been talking about it for a while but you might not get its picture yet. It’s might be hard to imagine what Thailand’s beaches and cities are like. And what it’s gonna happen if these two mix up. Why don’t you take a look at this presentation of pattaya and listen to this Pattaya song. I hope this makes you want to come check out the place.

Thailand: Mueng Pai

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Hi guys! Welcome back to our MuayThaiSport.com/blog. Today’s article is about Thailand. Another nice place to visit! Let’s go to the north this time.

Mueng Pai or Pai is a small district in Mae Hong Sorn, a province from the North of Thailand. The tiny town is always filled with endless numbers of travelers; Thais and foreigners. They all fall in love with the peaceful and quiet environment. Pai River that flows through the town and mountain views around it attract many tourists from somewhere else. Those are Mueng Pai’s charm!

I visited the town earlier this year and I know why people have been talking and wanted to go there. After the sun sets, Pai’s streets are full with Thai handmade products such as cloths, handbag, postcards and even Thai music. It’s a town of all kind of artists! Nights in Pai are always enjoyable! This is why this town never once without tourists.

The best time you can go to Pai is from October to February, so that the weather isn’t too hot and too damp. This time a year, Pai would mostly be filled with foreign tourists instead of Thais. Because it’s quite hot, and we Thai people try to avoid that.

For the drinkers, you gonna love this place. Clubs and bars are in every street of the town. There you will get to make lots of new friends from all around the world.

This is also a perfect place for whoever loves photographing. The views here are unbelievable and incredibly beautiful, that is why you can see so many postcards from this faraway little town.

Thinking about it makes me want to visit there again sometimes. If you have a nice long vacation this time of year, Pai is another place where you can get away from the cold to warm yourself up a bit.

Shall we take a look at some photos from Pai?

Thailand: Koh Kret

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Welcome back to MuayThaiSport.com/blog! We’re back again with article about Thailand. Just some breaks for you from boxing. We wanna show you some tourist sites in Thailand where you can go maybe after your boxing lesson.

Koh Kret is an island near Bangkok. It’s not a natural island but it was there because of a construction of making a short-cut canal through ChaoPraYa River almost 300 years ago.

What you can do on Koh Kret? Well if you’re not really into the cultural stuff, you can visit some temples such as the highlight, Wat Poramaiyikawat, Wat Pailom and a few more on the island. But for me who’s been familiar with all Thai temples already, I’ll go straight to KwanArMan, a Mon cultural center, where many ancient stuff are displayed. And a place I won’t miss is Sweets Canal where they make Thai deserts.

It’s a good place to bike if you like around the island for a bit of exercise and shorten the walking time. And if you’re tired you can stop to buy some cold drink or ice-cream in earthenware, how cool is that.

The only thing I don’t like there is the motorcycles is so annoying sometimes. Last time I when there it seemed like they wouldn’t let us walk peacefully.

Everyone who has visited there loved the place. It’s really good for a day trip. But if you want to spend a night there, of course you can. The motel on the island costs only 400-500 baht a night including breakfast. I wanna go back there soon. So if you have a chance or if you’ve been in Thailand for a while and never go there, don’t forget to visit this island and you won’t be disappointed!
