Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Welcome to our website and yes this is just about time to introduce you to another boxing movie, actually a movie that involves boxing in it. So if you are a boxing fan and don’t have anything to do, maybe there’s no interesting upcoming fight or you just want to find for something new to enjoy, why don’t you try checking out this movie?

The movie’s called Million Dollar Baby, directed by Clint Eastwood. This might not be a perfect movie but the positives still outweigh the negatives. What I like the most is the back half of the movie that is quite powerful to watch. And besides I love the three main stars of the movie.

The three mains stars of the movies are Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. If you are their fans, I hope you don’t wanna miss this film too because they did one hell of a job here, or else the film wouldn’t have won 4 Oscars.

Synopsis from milliondollarbabymovie.warnerbros.com:
Frankie Dunn (CLINT EASTWOOD) has trained and managed some incredible fighters during a lifetime spent in the ring. The most important lesson he teaches his boxers is the one that rules his life: above all, always protect yourself. In the wake of a painful estrangement from his daughter, Frankie has been unwilling to let himself get close to anyone for a very long time. His only friend is Scrap (MORGAN FREEMAN), an ex-boxer who looks after Frankie’s gym and knows that beneath his gruff exterior is a man who has attended Mass almost every day for the past 23 years, seeking the forgiveness that somehow continues to elude him.

Rocky (1976)

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

This is another boxing film by Sylvester Stallone. This is just brilliant! Stallone wrote the screenplay on his own and played the main character very terrifically. The movie was quite a success I think.

The story is about a no-name boxer named Rocky Balboa (Stallone) who fights for small amount of money in gyms. He lives in an apartment in Philadelphia and earns a living by collecting debts. One day he met a girl and they became lovers. The girl’s brother took Rocky to work with him in a meat packing company. Current world Heavyweight boxing champion Apollo Creed visited Philadelphia one day and came up with an idea of giving an unknown a shot at the title and he chose Rocky. This is a big chance for Rocky so he trains and gets ready for the match. He needs to win this even though it’s obvious that Creed is set to win.

The film was directed by John G. Avildsen and stared Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, Burt Young and Carl Weathers…

This is not just a boxing movie but a story of a boxer. It is one of those movies that inspire people to fight to survive when they don’t get a chance that often. Sometimes there might be only one shot in a life-time.

This movie is worth your one shot of seeing it!

Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941)

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Wow it’s been a really long time since I last wrote about boxing film. You know most of the boxing films are quite tense and drama. Mostly there are quite sad because all the boxers’ lives aren’t that smooth. They had to get through some really tough time. But the movie I’m going to encourage you to watch is totally different. This boxer will make you laugh.

Here Comes Mr. Jordan is a hilarious comedy film. The story was adapted by Sidney Buchman and Seton I. Miller from the play “Heaven Can Wait” by Harry Segall. The film was directed by Alexander Hall and stars Robert Montgomery, Evelyn Keyes and Claude Rains. Basically the movie is about a boxer who’s accidentally brought to heaven before his time, so he gets another chance to go back on Earth.

You know what, you are going to love this movie. It’s an old classic boxing film might be hard to find but it now can be purchased in DVD and maybe you can rent it at Blockbuster. The movie got the quality! You might think that the original play “Heaven Can Wait” is better. You gotta admit most people tend to think that the original is always better. But after you watch this one, that will go beyond you. I really think they both are great.

Golden Gloves Movie

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

As you know that until the Olympics this year, female boxing is still excluded from the boxing events. The good news is in 1994 female boxing was received real attention and in the next Olympics in 2012, for the first time women boxers are allowed to enter and compete in the Olympic Games.

The film tells the story of women’s role in the Golden Gloves boxing competition.

Women have been trying to get into the competition for years. In this documentary you will see all the female boxers have gone through.

The actual first 2 minutes of the film from YouTube

This is going to be one great boxing film. It is coming on DVD soon. You can keep tracking on www.goldenglovesmovie.com

The film makers decided to follow 8 great women in the 2005 tournament who all think they can be CHAMP from the quarter finals till the prestigious Finals.

At the end of the competition, the winner, an outspoken Puerto Rican young woman cannot go to compete on the National level, because she doesn’t have to money. That is because USA Boxing will pays all the expenses for travel, hotel, food, etc for state champions but only for MEN. And women boxers like this Puerto Rican you will see in the film have to pay for all those expenses for themselves.

Thank to Leyla Leidecker, the director of this documentary. Women’s boxing is now recognized. The sport is now offering women boxers the same opportunities as men boxers. Too bad in 2005, the International Olympic Comity voted “No” to the inclusion of women’s boxing in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The film spreads out the political message, calling for equal rights for women who think they can box.

Leidecker wanted to show the audience these 8 incredible women who not only are successful in their out of the ring careers, but also have great sportsmanship and friendship to each other. Good Job!

Film: Ong Bak 2

Friday, July 25th, 2008

The latest news of Ong Bak 2, another great action movie from Thailand that has Ja Panom or Tony Jaa staring and this time also directing it. The news is that…well I don’t wanna say this…but Ong Bak 2 might have to be postponed.

Tony Jaa, after running away from the production and no one knew where he was, just came back and explained the reason he had to run away from the set. I understand that he need time to meditate in the woods due to the problem he’s got from making the movie.

He takes this movie very seriously because it is his first movie of making. That’s why he had a tendency to go off for days or months. And now the producer has run out of money I guess and Jaa has to fund the rest by himself.

I hope this film come within this year like it said. According to the plan it should be released on December 5 in Thailand. But that is when the problem between Jaa and his parent company (Sahamongkol Film) is solved. I hope the miscommunication about the financial situation between his company and Sahamongkol will end very soon. Or we might not get to see the 100 percent completed film.

Let’s take a quick watch at Ong Bak 2 trailer one more time.

Ong Bak 2 Trailer from YouTube.com

I really am looking forward to seeing this movie. And I’m sure there are thousands of Tony Jaa’s fans out there. We fans should give him when possible the support. Yesterday he was just an action star, the day before he was only a poor guy from the North East, and today he’s trying to make his dream become true being a director. This guy can do a lot more.

Come back to our blog next time for a lot more of great boxing film. See you then!
