Ireland is one of the countries that has produced great boxers and has won so many medals around the world. Too bad in the latest Olympics in Beijing, the only one Irish boxer that went to the final round, Kenny Egan in a light heavyweight match lost to Xiaoping Zhang from China 11 to 7. But he got the silver medal which is not bad at all since the last time a fighter from Ireland received a medal from the Olympics was in 1992.

So I got really interested in Ireland and its boxers. I just read about Ireland I wrote a review of an Irish boxing website a few days ago so I looked more and I got some interesting information I want you to know about the association.

The Irish Amateur Boxing Association was founded in 1911 following a meeting in Dublin. In 1937 the President of the Association at that time, General W.R.E. Murphy decided that it was time for the Association to have its own boxing stadium. The though became true 2 years later and the National Stadium was opened by Mr. Frank Aiken, T.D., the Minister of Defence.

The Association is really proud of that they are the only amateur boxing association in the world to have a stadium of its own that was custom built and which they manage and control. Thanks to General W.R.E. Murphy who first thought about this and made it become true.

If you are now starting to be interested in the Association, you can go to the website at http://www.iaba.ie/boxing/Main/Home.htm and check out other interesting information in the events each year or go see the latest news of Irish boxing or visit their Gallery which might make you interested more in Irish boxing and boxers.

So how was it the summer Olympics in Beijing? The Chinese did a really great job hosting the event and we are looking forward to the next Olympics 4 years later in London. I kindda wonder how London can make the next Olympics be as big and as elegant as what Beijing has done when only 1 third of the money is allowed to be used next time.

And don’t forget that the next Olympics in 2012 in London is the first time for FEMALE BOXING to enter the Olympic Games. It’s going to be really great!

Today I’m here with the result of the boxing event! Take a look!

The finals were scheduled in two days the 23rd and the 24th of August. Here are the result of all boxing bouts.
Super Heavyweight (+91 kg) Roberto Cammarelle from Italy beated Zhilei Zhang from China, referee stopped the contest in the 4th round.

Light Heavyweight (81 kg) The winner is Xiaoping Zhang from the host, China by defeating Kenny Egan from Ireland 11 to 7.

Welterweight (69 kg) The Kazakhstan, Bakhyt Sarsekbayav won over Carlos Banteaux Suarez from Cuba by 18 to 9.

Lightweight (60 kg) Alexey Tischenko from Russia defeated Daouda Sow from France by 11 to 9.

Bantamweight (54 kg) Badar-Uugan Enkhbat from Mongolia beated Yankiel Leon Alarcon from Cuba by 16 to 5.

Light Flyweight (48 kg) The Chinese, Shiming Zou won over the Mongolian, Serdamba Purevdori who retired in the 2nd round.

One the 23rd there are 5 matches which are:

Middleweight (75 kg) James Degale from Great Britain defeated Emilio Correa Bayeaux from Cuba by 16-14.

Light Welterweight (64 kg) Felix Diaz from Dominican Republic won over Manus Boonjamnong from my country Thailand, too bad by 12 to 4. We don’t blame him!

Featherweight (57 kg) Vasyl Lomachenko from Ukraine defeated Khedafi Djelkhir from France, referee stopped the contest in the 1st round.

And the last here the first Final match and the first Gold Medal of Boxing of this Olympics is belong to the Flyweight boxer from Thailand, Somjit Jongjohor who won over Andris Laffita Hernandez from Cuba 8 to 2.

This is our website review article and today we are here with an interesting, we think it is, boxing website called Irish-Boxing. Maybe you might have visited the site before but see what we think about it anyway right here below.

Are you Irish? Or an Irish boxer fan? You don’t want to miss this! The Irish-Boxing.com is the website that will give you pretty much all the information you want to know about Irish Boxing. The Boxers. The ratings. Go to the site and enjoy!

There are lots of features you can choose to look at. Our favorite is their new archives which they divide in 3 m ain categories; stories, features and multi-media. The others are such as Gallery, Ratings, Upcoming bouts and stuff.

And if you’re in Ireland, you can visit the website to choose the boxing club near your house. It’s really convenient and the list is quite long now. Isn’t this really helpful or what? And in case you own a boxing club yourself in Ireland or you know a club that has not been listed there, you can contact them and help making the site more effective.

If this makes you more interested at all in this site, please go to www.irish-boxing.com to see for yourself.

There are 76 provinces in Thailand and I have lost count how many of them I’ve already talked about here. Anyway if that would help you pick a destination to go to or to visit in Thailand, I will still continue writing about it. And it’s fun for me anyway because while I’m writing an article about Thailand, I can plan where I want to go on my next vacation.

Today I picked Ratchaburi, a glorious province in the Central of Thailand. It is located on the bank of the Mae Klong River. The town is full of natural attractions and also historical sites.

My favorite is Bo Khlueng Hot Spring. I really love to sit my feet in warm mineral water. It’s also believed that the warm water from nature can be used to treat the skin. And it’s just really relaxing to go there for a picnic.

And of course the most popular attraction of Ratchaburi is the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. It’s like the symbol of the province and very well-known throughout the world. A lot of international TV programs have come and filmed and told story about it. The place really reflects the life style of the local and shows us how important the river is to them. But what the tourists really care about is it’s fun to shop there. The products sole in that place isn’t the cheapest. But you’ll get the local atmosphere and enjoy the old fascinating style traditions there at the same time.

Picture from Wikipedia

Other tourists’ attractions are also the showcase of Thai culture, tradition and the way of life. It is a place where people from around the world can experience the true Thai culture.

Next time I’ll take you to another great place in Thailand. And I hope this guide will help you choose where you can plan a trip on your next holidays. See you next time!

Wow it’s been a really long time since I last wrote about boxing film. You know most of the boxing films are quite tense and drama. Mostly there are quite sad because all the boxers’ lives aren’t that smooth. They had to get through some really tough time. But the movie I’m going to encourage you to watch is totally different. This boxer will make you laugh.

Here Comes Mr. Jordan is a hilarious comedy film. The story was adapted by Sidney Buchman and Seton I. Miller from the play “Heaven Can Wait” by Harry Segall. The film was directed by Alexander Hall and stars Robert Montgomery, Evelyn Keyes and Claude Rains. Basically the movie is about a boxer who’s accidentally brought to heaven before his time, so he gets another chance to go back on Earth.

You know what, you are going to love this movie. It’s an old classic boxing film might be hard to find but it now can be purchased in DVD and maybe you can rent it at Blockbuster. The movie got the quality! You might think that the original play “Heaven Can Wait” is better. You gotta admit most people tend to think that the original is always better. But after you watch this one, that will go beyond you. I really think they both are great.

Today I’m going to teach you how to say hello in Thai. I suppose you already know the word Sawaddee or some write Sawasdee which means “hello” already. But what I’m teaching you here is something else. It’s something that you might not have heard or learned anywhere else.

I’m focusing on what you can say to greet another people in the morning so it’s good morning basically. And you will see that there are a variety of choices for you to choose to say in the morning when you go to work or work out and meet your friends.

Starting with the most formal one to the least formal one, we get:
Arun Sa wad = Good Morning!
Sawaddee Ton Chao = Hello in the morning (I’m trying to show you the literal meaning)
Sawaddee = Hello
Wad Dee = Hi
Ngai = What’s up! Hey!
Ma Laew Ror? = You’re here already?

Choose the one you like that will best suit the person you’re talking to. Remember that the level of the language is really important. If you’re talking to a more mature person like your teacher or trainer, you will need to use a bit formal language but don’t go for the most formal one because that would sound really weird to him than showing him respect. The last three which are “Wad Dee” “Ngai” and “Ma Laew Ror?” I suggest you use them with your friends and someone less mature than you are, like a younger person.

So now you can practice saying all of these at home and wait to use it whenever you get a chance to contact with a Thai. It’s not really necessary to memorize all of them. I would go for the ones in the middles first, then if I have more time and mood I’ll try to memorize the rest.

See you next time with our Talk Thai article here!

The Learning Clips still go on. Now we are doing the punching section. That’s right, this is going to be another great Muay Thai collection where you can come in and take a look, so you can practice Muay Thai at home. That easy!

Fist in Thai is called “Mud” and to punch called “shok”, so this is for your information, so that when you heard these two words you will know what it is about.

As you know there are a lot of styles of punching in Thai Boxing. And of course we are not able to list and make a short clip for each of them but we try our best. I hope you like them.

Today’s punch is the most basic one, the straight punch or Mud Dhrong (Dhrong means straight). The targets aimed are eye-sockets, chin, nose or mouth.

How to do it is nothing much to explain. Just throw a direct punch forwards towards the targets, keeping the palm downwards. The reason is because you want the back of your knuckles hit the targets for the best impact.

The power of the Mud Dhrong is from twisting the shoulders, hips, and heel at the same time. Now it’s time for you to take a look at our short clip. Enjoy!

There are two types of straight punch; first is the Cross and another is the Jab. Basically the cross is Mud Dhrong with the rear fist and the Jab is the straight punch with the lead fist. Really simple! So now you can see that the clip above is called the Cross.

Don’t forget to keep your palm downwards always for the greatest impact on the aimed targets.

Check out our next Muay Thai Learning Clip right here!

Alright everyone…here is the next plan for you who are visiting Thailand this August. One of the most interesting events, northern fruit and art festivals will be held in Lamphun and Chiang Mai from August 9 to August 24, 2008. So whoever comes here this month, pay attention to this.

Two northern big provinces, Lamphun and Chiang Mai have plans for staging cultural events for all the visitors in this August. Northern towns are noted for their culture, art and heritage linked to the ancient kingdom of Lanna, but they are equally recognized for a variety of fruits, sometimes difficult to find elsewhere in Thailand.

Lamphun, another biggest city in the North of Thailand next to Chiang Mai with a thousand years of history, is celebrating the Longan fruit season with a festival that runs from August 9 to 18. And like many festivals in Thailand, a beauty contest is also involved here. Lamphun people are proud to cast their vote for the local Miss Longan, while they enjoy the temple fair atmostphere of an event that continues to retain its character and links with the town’s proud history.

The event will be held at the Lamphun stadium, in the center of town, this is an ideal chance to try and buy Longan fruit back home at exceptionally reasonable (let’s just say cheaper) prices.

Not very far from Lamphun, Chiang Mai is also hosting an Annual Lanna Arts Festival, from August 12 to 24 at Chiang Mai Royal Agricultural Center that once served originally as the venue for the highly successful Royal Flora show a few years ago. Stages for cultural performances have been set out at the Mae Hia sub-district venue, promising visitors a colorful spectacle of Lanna cultural performances from 8 provinces of the Northern Thailand. Apart from traditional dance and music…so beautiful…, visitors will also enjoy handicraft demonstrations and a stroll through a traditional market to buy local products sourced in and around Chiang Mai.

Information is from www.tourismthailand.org

Well, that was just another plan for you. Thailand is a great place to take a vacation to. If you have somewhere else in mind, that is ok too. We’ll be back again for more places to visit when you are here. See you then!
