If you wanna learn Muay Thai, you need to understand also that we Thais really believe in superstitious thingies. Every single Thai fighter needs amulets. It’s become a ritual to wear amulets, believed it can protect you from harms and help you somehow to win.

Head Band or Mong Kon is also an amulet worn on Thai boxers’ heads. It’s the most important gear or you can call it’s an equipment you need for Muay Thai. It is believed to be a charm that will bring prosperity and will protect the fighter from all kinds of danger. In another word, Mong Kon is a must wear equipment of Muay Thai. No boxer without Mong Kon on his head before the fight can fight confidentially.

Mong Kon in Thai means something prosperous or with a good bless. Its name already tells how important it is. In ancient time, Mong Kon were worn on soldiers’ heads before they went out to the battle. Today it’s used in Wai Kru before each Muay Thai match.

Not just some piece of cloth, Mong Kon must be worn with respect. Whoever wears it must treat and handle it properly and respectfully. Basically you should believe in it. If not, there’s no need to have one. I’m not sure if it’s a rule to have Mong Kon, but until now I’ve never seen any Muay Thai matches without no-Mong Kon worn fighters. So I guess that it’s a must have for Wai Kru ritual.

There are so many styles of Mong Kon sole in Muay Thai equipments markets. You can also check out our Mong Kon at our store page right here in colors and the traditional one in plain white which was used in ancient Muay Thai.
