Thai Talk 4: I’m sorry

Hi and welcome back to our MuayThaiSport.com/blog-Thai Talk. It’s back again with me, Krista. I think it’s really useful for any of you who will soon come to Thailand to learn or train MuayThai. (Don’t forget to visit our Thai Boxing Gyms Reviews right here in this blog) It’s always good to know a bit of how to talk and say things in Thai when you stay in Thailand.
So today we’re talking about how to say sorry once you’ve done something wrong to the others. Let say, you accidently kick your trainer too hard. Last week, I taught you how to say excuse me! In Thai, how to say “excuse me” and “I’m sorry” is exactly the same. Not that hard!

If you can recall, we say “Kor-Thod-Ka” or “Kor-Thod-Krap”. Ka and Krap are the respectful endings for the speakers to the others. Or just quickly say “Kor-Thod” if you’re using it with friends. I sometimes even say just “Thod” to my close friends.

You can notice that a lot of times we omit the pronouns. You might wonder, how do we know who is talking to whom. We know! This is something you will soon get used to once you’re really here.

However, unlike how to say “excuse me”, here you can say “I am sorry”. Just add the pronoun “I” in the front. So for males, “Pom-Kor-Thod-Krap”. And for females, “Chan-Kor-Thod-Ka”.

Or to be even more sincere, you can say “I’m terribly sorry” or “I’m really sorry” You say “Pom-Kor-Thod-Jing-Jing-Krap” and “Chan-Kor-Thod-Jing-Jing-Ka”. Jing-Jing means “really” or “truely”.

Alright! Do some practices! Just one phrase a day is enough. I don’t want to scare you with loads of everything. I’ll be back again with another lesson next week. But you can visit our MuayThaiSport.com/blog everyday to check out the other interesting stuff we put here. Enjoy!
