Another name for Thailand’s North-East biggest region is Isaan. People here are actually more relaxed and friendlier than in other areas. Not just great and kind people that make Isaan famous, so does the food.
Isaan food is famous for its variety of ingredients and spiciness. If you try the real Isaan food like the most popular Som Tam (a spicy papaya salad), you could sweat until the next day morning. And let me tell you Thai chilly is the king of the chilly. The hottest kind ever found on earth. Ok I might have exaggerated that a bit, but it is true that it is the spiciest. Oh talking about the food, I can’t forget mentioning Gai Yang (roasted spiced chicken). You have gotta try this one when you get a chance.
There is a district Laos and Khmer influence in the region which is reflected in the local dialect and culture such as architectures that look just like Angkor Wat.
There are archeological prove that shows the earliest settles of the region where here some 4000 years ago. The evident are such as prehistoric cave drawings and ancient ceramic and bronze sculptures.
What you can do there? There are lots of things you can do. If you want to try something new and learn what it’s like to live in rural Thailand, you can choose to stay with a home stay for a while. There you will learn and touch the real Thai Isaan people’s lives. You might get to go planting or harvesting and fishing. You will also learn the dialect and culinary secrets and everything. You might go back home and make your friends an Isaan dish.
Things to bring: just you and your heart and nerve to give your life an adventurous experience.
