World’s Durian Festival, Chanthaburi

Another thing that we’re well-known of is our fruits. Like every tropical country, we have all kinds of tropical fruits to eat and sell all year. This time of the year, May-June, is the season of Durian, “the King of Fruits”. Durian trees grow well in tropical rain forests of Southeast Asia. In Thailand, Durian trees are planted in the East of Thailand, for instant in Chanthaburi province.

Some of you might have heard of its reputation of smell and taste. The fruit is distinctive for its large size, unique odor, and formidable sharp and prickly-thorn-covered husk. The odor of the ripe fruit is so strong and piercing even when the skin and husk are still intact. And because of its sharp smell, durians are banned in certain public places like in hotels or on public transports, like buses or taxis. Although it’s been describe a really strong-foul-smelling fruit and not good of those of you who have high blood pressure, for some people it’s still deliciously flavored and cannot be resisted.
